We could not find a current WeChat consumer help page that states one official video file cap for chat or Moments. Older pages and competitor roundups disagree (16MB and 20MB both circulate). This page does not treat either number as WeChat’s rule. It preselects 16MB so a phone upload is more likely to finish, and you should follow the limit the WeChat app shows.

A practical size, because the official cap is not clear

WeChat often recompresses videos chosen from the album. A large phone recording can arrive muddy, with unreadable text, even when the app accepts the upload.

16MB of H.264 is a starting point that is small enough to send on a mobile network. It is not a figure copied from a WeChat help article we could verify on 2026-10-10.

If the app rejects the file or offers an “original quality” send with its own ceiling, use that ceiling. Change the number in the size box. Encoding stays on this device.
