How to Compress a Video on Android Without Uploading
Modern Android phones can encode video with dedicated hardware. In Chrome, Slimvid can use that encoder directly: the original file stays on the phone and there is no upload queue.

Open the compressor in Chrome, choose the video from Files or Photos, then select the size required by the destination.
- Use an exact target such as 10MB or 25MB when an app rejects larger files.
- Use 720p or 1080p for chat and email instead of preserving a 4K phone recording.
- Preview the result, download it, and confirm it appears in Downloads before removing the original.
Why phone compression can be fast
Android devices include a hardware video encoder for recording and playback. When the browser exposes a compatible codec, Slimvid uses that path instead of running a slower software encoder.
Speed still varies by phone, codec, resolution and thermal limits. Keeping the screen active and avoiding battery-saver mode can prevent the browser from being paused during a long job.
What to do if Chrome cannot encode the file
Try converting unusual MOV, MKV or AVI input to MP4, or trim a short section first. Some codecs can be played by a phone but are not exposed to browser encoding.
If the device runs out of memory, use a shorter range or move the job to a desktop. Retrying the same oversized job will not create more available memory.
