Why MOV files break outside Apple apps

MOV is a container. The picture inside may be H.264 or HEVC. Players that only open MP4, or only decode H.264, stall on the second case.

A remux keeps the original picture and is often finished in a second. A transcode is slower and is what HEVC needs for wide playback.

Camera originals are a poor thing to upload to a random website. This conversion stays in the browser.

Does converting MOV to MP4 reduce quality?
Not on a remux of H.264. HEVC and other codecs are re-encoded. The hardware encoder keeps the picture close to the source.
Will iPhone HDR look the same?
The web path aims for a widely playable MP4. If the result looks flat, the HDR grade did not survive. That is a color-management limit, not a hidden upload.
Is the video uploaded?
