Instagram’s consumer help center does not publish one file-size number we could confirm for posting from the app. A multi-gigabyte camera file is still a bad upload on a phone, and Instagram recompresses large videos. 100MB is practical, not an official maximum
Reels and feed uploads fail or crawl when the file is a 4K camera original. 100MB of H.264 uploads on a normal connection and gives Instagram less to crush.
We are not quoting an Instagram “maximum file size” because we could not confirm one on the consumer help center.

What fits in 100 MB
Planning estimate from Slimvid’s size formula: 97% of the byte cap, a small audio reserve, then a lower resolution when the video bitrate would look bad. It is not a measured encode of one clip. Motion, codec and audio change the file.
