Personal Gmail and Outlook.com both publish a 25MB limit for attachments. Gmail’s help center says personal accounts stop at 25MB and that larger files become a Drive link. Outlook.com’s sending limits page also says 25MB, including the message text. Work and school accounts can be set lower by an admin. This page preselects 25MB and encodes locally.

Why 25MB is the email number

25MB is the published consumer cap, not a guess. Google documents it for personal Gmail. Microsoft documents it for Outlook.com. Go over it and the message often becomes a Drive or OneDrive link.

A file aimed just under 25MB still arrives as a normal attachment. Mail servers also count the message body and MIME overhead, so the preset does not target 25.0MB on the nose.

Google Workspace and some company servers use a limit an admin chose. If a 25MB file bounces, lower the target. Compression stays on this device.

Attachment versus a cloud link

Gmail removes an oversized attachment and inserts a Drive link. That is convenient until the recipient cannot open the company’s sharing settings. A file under 25MB avoids that detour.

Outlook.com offers the same tradeoff with OneDrive. The linked file can be larger, but it is no longer a normal attachment.

What fits in 25 MB

Planning estimate from Slimvid’s size formula: 97% of the byte cap, a small audio reserve, then a lower resolution when the video bitrate would look bad. It is not a measured encode of one clip. Motion, codec and audio change the file.

What size gets through Gmail and Outlook.com?
Both publish 25MB for consumer attachments. Gmail says personal accounts are 25MB and larger files are sent as a Drive link. Outlook.com says the whole message, text plus files, must stay within 25MB.
Is every mailbox 25MB?
No. Google says Workspace admins set their own sending and receiving limits. Some company servers are stricter than 25MB. If the message bounces, compress again to 10MB or 8MB.
Do you upload the video to send it?
No. You download the result and attach it the same way you would attach a PDF.
How long a clip fits in 25MB?
Use the duration table on this page. A couple of minutes of 720p or 1080p usually fits. A long 4K recording does not stay sharp at 25MB.
