Compress Video for TikTok

We did not confirm one official TikTok consumer file-size cap on a help page we can cite. Large uploads are allowed in the app, and TikTok still recompresses them. This page preselects 50MB so a phone upload finishes quickly and captions stay readable. If TikTok’s uploader shows a different limit, use that.

Turn a bulky edit into a 50MB file that uploads on cellular without looking mushy.

A smaller file before TikTok recompresses

A 4K master is slow on LTE and gives TikTok a lot of data to throw away. 50MB at 1080p is enough for a short vertical clip and small enough to send from a train.

50MB is a Slimvid preset. It is not labeled here as TikTok’s published maximum.

The tool does not crop. Make the 9:16 frame in your editor, then compress.

What fits in 50 MB

Planning estimate from Slimvid’s size formula: 97% of the byte cap, a small audio reserve, then a lower resolution when the video bitrate would look bad. It is not a measured encode of one clip. Motion, codec and audio change the file.

FAQ

TikTok video size FAQ

What file size does TikTok allow?
We could not confirm a single official consumer number, so this page does not invent one. 50MB is the practical preset. Change it if the app disagrees.
Do I need a vertical video?
TikTok prefers 9:16. This tool only changes the file size. Crop first if you need a different frame.
Will my sound be kept?
Yes, re-encoded inside the size budget. Keep the original if you will add a TikTok sound in the app.
