Why shrink it before you send
WhatsApp recompresses large videos when you pick them from the gallery. A 200MB phone clip often arrives muddy, with unreadable text.
A ~16MB H.264 MP4 usually goes through as a file instead of being crushed again, which is why faces, slides and captions stay readable in chat.
Status clips are a different limit (about 30 seconds). For a status, trim first, then compress. The file still never leaves this device.
